Amphi Special Election

It was only May 17, 2005 when the Amphi school district requested and had pass a special election for a "override election" to approve a 10% increase in the maintenance and operating budget. Now we are going to have another "Special Election" this November 6th where the school district is asking for $180,000,000.00!

Do the 135,000 people in the Amphi School District realize that this places 1.32 million dollars of debt on everyone of them? This is above and beyond our current spending that ranks above the average school spending in Arizona.
As for the school, we need to compare our spending to other districts, and assess if we are "in the ball park". Two years ago we just approved the override to their budget. Reading the effectiveness of additional millions they had available in the minutes of the blue ribbon budget analysis (available on line), hardly anything was accomplished, typical of any government bureaucracy. The only solution they can propose is they need more money, hence the current bond proposal.

Is there a reason why the school district holds these "special elections" that cost about a million and a half to hold? Why yes, who is motivated to turn out and vote against this. There is more motivation from within the school system to rally and vote for this then the average tax payer.

You may be motivated if you have lived here for more than about six years. If you have been here that long you would have witnessed your property taxes increase about 100%. The local school and state government have been digging into our pockets driving up the cost of living here in Oro Valley. We as residence, and parents need to hold these officials accountable to their current spending! It is very tiresome that the only solution from our government is "more money". When will enough be enough?

Please vote November 6th.
